In One Place—A Query Letter
EVERYONE KNOWS THE SAME TRUTH. OUR LIVES CONSIST OF HOW WE CHOOSE TO DISTORT IT. The story of an American expat in urban Western Europe and a cast of deftly realistic characters and ideas, In One Place follows his travels and adjustment to life in the 21st century. A first-person narrative with musings and tales of misadventure, the novel is set in and around a post-modern urban world, and how this relates to those outside it. "If you believe the normal world is corrupt, insanity is a path to purity." Awareness of the metaphor of insanity; tempted through experimentation, through suffering, and finally through writing. A self-revelation and final acceptance follows an underlying structure: the hero's quest. Called to adventure, the hero sets out on a journey on which he must overcome a series of obstacles and ordeals, including a symbolic death and rebirth, before he is allowed to return with the elixir. In this case, the elixir is some kind of self-knowledge. For a copy of the manuscript, contact the author with the reason for request at andrew@barsch.com |
